Israel Thwart Terror Plot To Assassinate PM Netanyahu
ISRAEL’s security services have busted a Syrian-directed terror plot on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and other senior officials, it has been revealed.
According to Israel’s internal security agency Shin Bet, Muhammad Jamal Rashdah, 30, from the Shuafat refugee camp in east Jerusalem intended to launch attacks on the Prime Minister, Jerusalem Mayor Nir Barkat.
Rashdah is a former security prisoner with an Israeli ID card and also planned attacks on Canadian representatives residing in Jerusalem who train Palestinian Authority forces in the West Bank. He also planned to attack buildings belonging to the American consulate. Shin Bet also claim Rashdah got his instructions from Syria and also carried out preliminary steps to collect intelligence about his intended targets.
He had previously been imprisoned for terrorist activities, according to Israeli news outlet 24 News. A security services spokeswoman told the Jerusalem Post that Rashdah got his orders from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP).
